Cloud Migration & Core System Modernization

Due to the fast-changing digital landscape, enterprises face dual pressures of innovation speed and operational cost. Cloud migration, when done right, will unlocks scalability, cost efficiency, and the agility to compete.

Why Enterprises Move to the Cloud

Cost Optimization

Traditional hardware is over-provisioned to handle peak traffic. A pay-as-you-go model with right-sizing can eliminate hardware waste and significantly reduce infrastructure costs.

Improved Performance

Cloud architecture offers high availability and durability, significantly reducing unplanned downtime and improving overall service performance.

Accelerated Innovation

Automation reduces traditional IT operations tasks by up to 50%, freeing teams to focus on core business innovation and faster application delivery.

Sustainability

Cloud accelerates data analytics and insights. Higher hardware utilization and economies of scale also help enterprises meet IT sustainability goals.

Structured Migration Methodology: Three-Phase Cloud Adoption

Large-scale migration projects are complex as it require inventory of on-premises environments, mapping application dependencies, and overcoming institutional knowledge barriers. Netron uses a proven three-phase migration methodology to ensure a controlled, low-risk migration.

Step 01

Phase 1: Assess & Business Validation

Automated Discovery & Inventory

Using agentless collection tools, rapidly inventory
on-premises servers and databases, capturing hardware specs, runtime environments, and actual resource utilization.

Accurate TCO & Business Case Analysis

Compare multiple cost scenarios and produce a data-backed Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) report to help leadership build a compelling business case.

Step 01

Step 02

Phase 2: Mobilize & Plan

In-depth Dependency Analysis & Wave Planning

Collect network connection data to visualize application and server dependency maps. Use data-driven grouping to plan safe migration waves (Migration Groups) that minimize risk.

Establish Cloud Foundation (Landing Zone)

Before migration begins, build a secure cloud Landing Zone with identity, network isolation, security guardrails, and financial governance as the foundation for large-scale migration.

Step 02

Step 03

Phase 3: Migrate & Modernize

Zero-Downtime Data & System Migration

Use block-level continuous data replication to sync applications to the cloud in the background, achieving minimal cutover windows and zero-disruption migration.

Continuous Operations & Architecture Optimization

After go-live, continuously monitor resources, tune performance, and optimize operations.

Step 03

Comprehensive 7R Migration Strategy

For enterprises with hundreds of applications, Netron provides a full 7R migration strategy assessment, thus tailoring the optimal cloud path for each system.

Rehost

Rapidly replicate applications to cloud virtual machines with no code changes using automated tools. Best for fast data center exits.

Replatform

Replace the underlying platform with cloud managed services (e.g., migrate self-managed DB to cloud-managed DB) without changing core application architecture. Reduces operational burden.

Refactor

Redesign application architecture using cloud-native technologies (microservices, containers, or serverless) to fully unlock cloud scalability and flexibility.

Relocate

Transfer workloads from specific virtualized platforms directly to equivalent cloud virtualization environments.

Repurchase

Replace legacy software with cloud-based SaaS solutions.

Retain

Keep systems on-premises temporarily for those not yet ready to migrate or still within depreciation cycles.

Retire

Identify and decommission idle systems with no remaining business value, saving licensing and maintenance costs.

Core System & Mainframe Modernization

Enterprise core systems and mainframes face rising costs, shrinking talent pools, data lock-in, high coupling, and slow release cycles. Netron provides dedicated modernization paths for core system cloud adoption:

Core System Modernization Approaches

Replatforming with Compatibility: Provide a cloud-managed runtime environment compatible with mainframe languages (e.g., COBOL), allowing enterprises to migrate without rewriting business logic.

Automated Refactoring: Use advanced transformation tools to automatically refactor legacy mainframe code and data structures into modern programming languages.

Strangler Fig Pattern

For large monolithic core systems, Netron applies the progressive Strangler Fig Pattern. By building a new service interface around the old system, legacy functions are gradually extracted and replaced with cloud-native services, until the old system is fully retired with zero risk.

Database Migration

For core database migrations, we apply a two-stage strategy:

Schema & Code Conversion: Automatically analyze and convert relational database and data warehouse schemas, stored procedures, and application code, hence producing a detailed compatibility assessment report.

Continuous Data Replication: Establish a secure data channel between source and target databases for initial data load and ongoing Change Data Capture (CDC), ensuring near-zero cutover downtime and data consistency.
