FlyElephant Implements AWS Services to Build an Information System That Increases Business Value

FlyElephant core team has worked with C2C transaction systems and UGC platforms since 2006, helping customers succeed through professional e-commerce customization, systems architecture planning, visual concept design, UI design, UX design, systems integration, data analytics, and data extraction and visualization. FlyElephant helps clients build and implement the information systems they need to achieve their business goals and mission.

Requirement:

As the business grew, the self-managed data center gradually became outdated and insufficient to meet demand. Every time the IT system needed a version upgrade, or hardware servers and storage needed to be expanded, it required a lengthy evaluation process followed by a significant budget investment. Over time, this proved time-consuming and inflexible for the business, and added to the burden on the IT team.

System stability and quality were the client top priorities, which is why they chose to move to AWS, reducing the need for additional hardware and software purchases while retiring outdated equipment and modernizing the architecture. This included replacing and consolidating existing infrastructure, migrating existing workloads to AWS, and adopting SaaS services to reduce the overall IT management burden.

The plan prioritized implementing several AWS services, including Amazon ECS, Amazon S3, and AWS RDS. After migration, server availability was expected to improve, delivering stable, uninterrupted service quality. With AWS RDS in place, backups are now handled automatically, freeing up staff time for other work.

Architecture Overview:

An architecture aligned with the AWS Well-Architected Framework was designed based on the client requirements.

  1. VM migration carried out through CloudEndure
  2. Database replication handled via AWS DMS
  3. Private network segments configured with no direct external connectivity
  4. Security groups and ACLs control access between the on-premises network and AWS
  5. CloudWatch handles monitoring across both on-premises and cloud environments
  6. CDN and WAF implemented to manage access and defend against malicious attacks

Result:

  • Estimated monthly cost savings of up to 29% after migrating to AWS
  • Website server performance improved by 2x
  • Auto Scaling implemented to handle high-traffic demand
  • Overall website performance improved by 2x
  • Reserved Instances (RIs) for EC2 development and testing environments cut costs by up to 60%
  • CloudWatch and SNS enabled system-wide monitoring, reducing repetitive operational work for the ops team by over 60%
  • Amazon CloudFront improved page load speed by more than 40%
  • AWS WAF blocked over 80% of malicious connection attempts
  • AWS RDS backup time shortened to under 30 minutes, with automated backup features reducing reliance on third-party software
