After several years without an official local presence, American footwear brand UGG launched its official Taiwan website this year to strong consumer reception. The initiative was delivered through a strategic partnership between Netron Information Technology, a specialist in AWS cloud architecture and deployment, FlyElephant, a digital solutions provider, and Sanor Commerce, UGG official distributor in Taiwan. Their collaboration offers a practical case study in enterprise digital transformation and cloud adoption.

From China Airlines and Shopee to Eslite and SOGO Auction, data breaches at e-commerce platforms have emerged as one of the defining risks of 2023. In April, the Ministry of Digital Affairs reported that between 2022 and the present, it had received 74 breach notifications within the e-commerce sector alone, conducted 7 administrative inspections, and required 5 companies to remediate issues within a specified timeframe, underscoring the scale of exposure facing e-commerce operators today.

At the same time, operating an e-commerce and membership platform, and migrating data to the cloud with proper backup protocols, has become a near-universal requirement of digital transformation. As cybersecurity risk continues to escalate, brands face a dual mandate: accelerate digital transformation while ensuring a secure, trustworthy experience for consumers.

Few brands understand this challenge as intimately as UGG, which spent years contending with counterfeit websites and unauthorized retailers. This year, the company launched its official Taiwan website through a partnership between Netron Information Technology, FlyElephant, and UGG Taiwan distributor Sanor Commerce. CommonWealth Magazine spoke with all three organizations to examine how they selected their cloud solution and partners, offering a framework other businesses can apply to secure the right external support and move quickly on market opportunity.

Netron Information Technology CEO Aries Lee: Rising Cybersecurity Risk and Unpredictable Traffic Spikes, Both Addressed Through AWS

The three-way partnership began when Netron Information Technology supported FlyElephant in adopting AWS products and services, enabling the project to combine custom Magento development with a suite of AWS services to deliver a stable, high-performance e-commerce platform with a superior user experience.

Early in the engagement, Netron Information Technology and FlyElephant aligned on AWS as the cloud platform for architecture and deployment. “AWS offers a broad, flexible portfolio of services well suited to Sanor Commerce specific requirements,” said Aries Lee, CEO of Netron Information Technology. As a market-leading cloud provider, AWS delivers more than 200 categories of cloud computing services across compute, storage, networking, security, and database management, supporting customers across every major industry worldwide.

Lee noted that on the security front, particularly around data protection and backup, AWS services such as S3, RDS, and ACM ensure server-side encryption and safeguard the confidentiality of database and sensitive information. To support the operational efficiency that is critical to e-commerce performance, AWS also provides services such as EC2 and ELB to enhance the overall user experience.

For example, when an e-commerce platform experiences a sudden surge in demand during a promotional event, the underlying system must be able to scale automatically and distinguish legitimate traffic from malicious activity, ensuring the user experience remains uninterrupted even at peak volume.

Round-the-Clock Service That Earned Strong Market Trust

On the technical side, the flexibility of cloud infrastructure enabled Netron Information Technology to give clients the ability to adjust service specifications in real time based on business conditions, improving the consumer experience while giving brands a more efficient and effective operating model.

However, selecting the right cloud solution is only the first step for an e-commerce brand. Ongoing, responsive support is one of the primary reasons clients continue to choose Netron Information Technology. Unlike most cloud service providers, where clients are routed through a standard customer service channel, Netron Information Technology provides direct access to AWS-certified engineers who resolve client issues in real time.

“Giving clients the ability to raise issues immediately, and resolving them quickly, is our top priority at Netron Information Technology,” said Lee. The company provides round-the-clock technical operations support, staffing its support channel 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, so clients can escalate issues as they arise and receive an immediate response from the internal technical team. “Connecting clients directly with our engineering team, rather than a customer service layer, is a key reason clients trust us.”

This operational model enabled Netron Information Technology to achieve AWS Advanced Consulting Partner status in just 4 months, while also earning AWS MSP and MSSP certifications, positioning the company to help clients maximize the value of AWS while strengthening their overall security posture.

Netron Information Technology CEO Aries Lee noted that direct access to engineers whenever an issue arises has been instrumental in building strong client trust.

Aligning on Mid- to Long-Term Business Objectives

“We also recommend AWS to our clients, and for client-facing issues, we follow Netron Information Technology model of connecting them directly with our team for resolution. We manage the application layer, and where technical collaboration is required, we partner closely with Netron Information Technology,” said Tai-Liang Kuo, CEO of FlyElephant.

Kuo observed that a common mistake among brands is finalizing architecture and service configuration before fully understanding their cloud requirements. The more effective approach is to first define the brand projected traffic and growth objectives, then use that mid- to long-term plan to guide deployment and service selection.

Kuo recommends that brands first define their future traffic and growth objectives, then use that mid- to long-term plan to guide cloud deployment and service selection.

The UGG official website leverages services including EC2, Auto Scaling, RDS, ElastiCache, and OpenSearch. These services deliver a highly available, stable operating environment while ensuring fast data read, write, and query performance, improving overall site performance and the customer shopping experience.

Kuo acknowledged that the primary implementation challenge was integration, and ensuring frontline staff could operate the Magento platform effectively. “Magento is widely used internationally, but many of its workflows differ from established practices in Taiwan, so structured training was essential to bring frontline teams up to speed quickly.”

Like Netron Information Technology, FlyElephant places strong emphasis on the client support experience. In addition to system implementation, the company supported Sanor Commerce in optimizing internal workflows through workshops, training materials, and hands-on sessions, enabling e-commerce project managers and marketing teams to configure campaigns, define product attributes, and design a tailored purchase journey.

Delivering a Secure and Trustworthy Official Shopping Experience

After years of counterfeit websites undermining the customer experience, Sanor Commerce General Manager Chiu-Hua Yang took a direct approach: “The most effective way to counter misinformation is to establish the authentic, official channel.”

After evaluating the challenges of data protection and unpredictable traffic surges, the team selected AWS as its cloud platform and, in alignment with international standards set by the brand parent company, partnered with FlyElephant to build the e-commerce system on Magento, developing features and experiences designed to drive sales and enhance the customer experience.

This fall and winter season, UGG has appointed Kōki, daughter of Takuya Kimura, as its global brand ambassador. Flagship products including the FoamO slipper and the Classic Brellah Mini rain boot will incorporate both Japanese and Western fashion influences, positioning the brand for a new wave of consumer demand, a significant test for the newly launched official website.

UGG has appointed Kōki, daughter of Takuya Kimura, as its global brand ambassador.

“A key priority for us is building consumer confidence around data security, so customers know their information is protected and can shop with complete peace of mind,” said Yang. Her observation underscores a broader imperative for e-commerce brands across Taiwan: as cybersecurity risk continues to rise, protecting customer data and reducing operational risk will remain a critical business priority.

Netron Information Technology began as a cybersecurity services provider and has since grown into a full-service cloud consulting company, offering end-to-end cloud consulting and 24/7 multilingual professional support. Netron Information Technology became an AWS Advanced Partner within just 4 months and holds AWS certifications in MSP, MSSP, Migration, and Generative AI Competency. The company represents over 20 international brands and serves nearly 2,000 clients with tailored, customized solutions.
